Upgrade your worksheets

We have fixed a number of annoying bugs in the Scala IDE for Eclipse Worksheet. To profit from the fixes, you need to update your worksheet version to the latest one. To do this, 

Select the "Help" menu in Eclipse and then select "Check for Updates".

If you have not updated recently, you should see a recommendation of updatable resources, which should include the worksheet. After that it's just a couple more clicks; simply follow the instructions.

Erratum in Lecture 4.2

There was an error in the solution to the "Nat" exercise at the end of lecture 4.2. The erroneous method was subtraction in class Succ. The correct version of the method is:

def -(that: Nat) = if (that.isZero) this else n - that.predecessor

We have uploaded a new video where the error has been corrected.

Please note, however, that the assignment this week is more involved than previous weeks' assignments. Thus, the (soft) due date for this assignment is in >2 weeks, on October 29th.

Assignment Schedule

We hope that you're enjoying the course so far! We have a short update about the due dates of assignments.

Students will have 10 days to submit assignments from the date that the assignments are released. 

That means that: 

• Assignments will made available on Tuesday mornings (Geneva time, UTC+1).
• They will be due 10 days later, on the following Friday by 9am (Geneva time, UTC+1)

Note that there is a small amount of overlap (that is, two assignments are available at the same time).

To put that in context, that means, for assignment 1, the (soft) due date is Friday, September 28th at 9am, Geneva time - UTC+1 (hard due date: Tuesday, October 2nd at 9am UTC+1, with a 20% penalty for each day the assignment is late). For assignment 2, the (soft) due date is Friday, October 5th at 9am Geneva time - UTC+1 (hard due date: Tuesday, October 9th at 9am UTC+1).

The first assignment is also available. If you haven't done so already, make sure you completed the Getting Started assignment, it will help you getting familiar with the tools that you will be using during this class.

We recommend that you give yourself a head start and take a look at the "Getting Started" assignment: it explains how to install and use the tools that are required for this class, and it's already available right now! You can submit as often as you like, and the score you achieve in this assignment will not be consideredfor the final grade.

So don't hesitate and get started!
