Headed for trouble
This young kid was skateboarding at the steps near the MIO bus station in Santa Librada. His dad was with him and watching. The kid was fearless. He fell constantly, but got up and did jumps off steps and other tricks. He was fun to watch.
Friday late afternoon, a friend called me and wanted to know what I was doing. She wondered if I could help her with her homework. We met at Unicentro mall, got something to eat and then went to Juan Valdez Café for coffee. She hooked up her computer and worked with her homework task, a large account of the European Treaty organization. I read the English translation to see if it was right and she read the Spanish part. I really didn’t do much. I think she just wanted my company. Colombians usually don’t like to do things alone. We both thought it was strange that we were sitting in a coffee shop working on homework on a Friday night. We should have been out dancing or something. I like her and she’s good company. I think she is very sharp and really focused on finishing her university studies. She is in law and will finish by the first of June.
Last night, I got a call from a woman I’d met with the couchsurfing group. I didn’t really know her, but we’d seen each other before and had mutual friends. She asked what I was doing. I said nothing in particular. She asked if I could meet her in 15 minutes. I said okay. I walked to a spot on Calle 5 where she arrived in a taxi. We then walked to the park in San Antonio and sat and talked. In a couple of hours, we learned a lot about each other. It was interesting. She’s nice and we had a good visit. I think she might want to spend more time with me, but, for me, no sparks flew and I will just consider her another friend here. I do like the fact that Colombian women are not afraid to call a guy up and invite him out or ask him to join them for an activity.
